Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq today urged the government of United Kingdom to repatriate convicted criminal Tarique Rahman and war criminal Chowdhury Mueen-Uddin immediately.
“It is our duty to execute the verdict given by our courts,” he said.
The minister came up with the observations while addressing a human chain and rally held at capital’s Banani field in protest of recent vandalism of Bangladesh High Commission in London by BNP-Jamaat men, not arresting BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman, who allegedly ordered the attack.
Organised by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote, the rally was presided over by its president and State Minister for Information Tarana Halim.
Terming the United Kingdom as the biggest symbol of democracy, the law minister said, “We want to see the country to give appropriate punishments to people those vandalised Bangladesh High Commission in London, attacked its staffs and dishonored the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.”
“If they can’t punish them, let’s hand them over to us, we will bring them to justice through proper trial. We were able to arrest and punish the people who attacked the British envoy in Sylhet in 1996,” Anisul added.
State Minister for Information Tarana Halim said the attack in Bangladesh High Commission and dishonoring Bangabandhu’s portrait is an attack on an independent and sovereign country.
People of all walks of life including noted artists, physicians, engineers, agriculturists, intellectuals and Freedom Fighters took part in the human chain and protest rally.
